Anxiety-inducing and emotional.
The movie is divided into 3 parts : before, during and after the war, all very different to each other but very important to truly undestand the protagonists' experience, even though it makes the movie a bit long.
It builds emotional tension very well, with a slow, happy, care-free pace at first and then it suddenly cuts to Vietnam without giving us the time to adgust- just like the protagonists.
