Fiddler on the Roof 1971
I’ve always liked the music to this film but I’d never watched it, only heard it in passing. It is definitely engaging throughout, with a couple points early on where you can feel things are going to go wrong but take a while to actually unfold. Also a very interesting look at one’s relationship with the divine, played out in a half exasperated half comedic way by Tevye. Definitely deserving of its plaudits. Movies should be longer, actually.

I Saw the TV Glow 2024
What an ethereal movie. A vibe both foreign and very relatable, both midwestern charm and also the deep isolation that can come with it. The deep unease in which the world and its characters exist in. I got a helluva lot to chew on with this one, and that’s not even touching the allegorical nature of the film. A hearty meal of stuff to think about.

They make these movies so fast, I just learned they’re doing another one. I got into a protracted argument about whether they’ll put Rouge the Bat in one of these movies and I’m a firm “no” right now. Very funny that Jim Carrey is basically retired except to play Dr. Eggman.
