I now understand why Kitano said others didn’t consider him a ‘real’ filmmaker until Fireworks. As mesmerizing as some long takes in here are, I don’t believe using deaf characters is an excuse to make a film almost devoid of feelings, where Hisaishi’s music has to fill all holes and pretend there is chemistry where there isn’t. I don’t mind slow pacing, but this script truly feels alien-made.

Sono making an antiporno called Antiporno criticizing the roman porno industry that the producer company of this film makes. As weird as the production of this sounds to me, this is fantastic. Superb acting and visuals, while providing a hard to digest take on the Japanese adult film industry. Vile.

Entertaining, funny. Nothing else to say.
