    BOT & SOLD.

Well I hope Simon Stålenhag got a big fat paycheck and will put it toward creating more of his whimsical weird and wonderful art books exploring the unknown expanse between the "humans using technology" world we now know and the "humans struggling for coexistence with technology" world which comes after. I own all his books and they're gorgeous and imaginative, while remaining mere flashcard glimpses at a complete world left up to the reader to fill in. His…

DESPITE ALL HIS RAGE, HE IS STILL JUST A ROTTING KID GAGE.

Wonderfully reliably entertaining schlock. I'd get a kick out of this even if it was all objectively terrible, but what's surprising is how much in it is actually pretty good. First, to be clear, this is a well-made film, I don't have much issue with the skill of filmmaking on display by anyone in front of or behind the camera. My issues - and milage may vary - are mostly with the writing, the tone, the whole mission statement of this film. It's a solid enough story about war correspondents covering brutal modern warfare at street level, and I understand what's supposed to be shocking is that…

    LOST IN THE SAUCE.

I don't want anyone to mistake this as me disliking the film because I "just didn't get it" or some such sophomoric nonsense. I assure you I got it. Look, whatever you think this film is going to be about - and the marketing has been pretty clear - that's not ultimately what it's about. What it's really about is about an hour and a half too long. Whatever you think it's going to be about,…
