A Real Pain 2024
not quite the experience i was hoping for, but one with substance nonetheless. this feels much more like an introspective short film, acting as a character study of the different ways pain can affect people and the different ways people cope.
these types of movies are part of why i love storytelling. the experience of simply spending time with human beings and reminding myself that i am alone in my daily small struggles and unremarkable suffering.

this movie made me feel like a kid again.
pros: the pacing is excellent. the story has a very natural progression from start to finish and none of the main characters feel neglected in their respective stories. the fight choreography manages to strike a balance between realistic swordplay and exaggerated fun. the set design is good and the atmosphere never lets up, aided by the soundtrack. captain love and don rafael are both great villains that serve as good counterparts…
