I think this is a good enough directorial film, however the writing from Sofia is where I believe it falls short. It lacks substance, and depth, where her other films are full of it. In her other films she explores female characters with such detail and care, even from a male perspective (the Virgin Suicides) but in this the characters are shallow, vapid and only driven by materialism. However the cinematography, the pacing and story telling make it up
