If you have any knowledge of movies you're going to guess the twist very early in. It's so obvious, in my opinion, that you might think it's a fake out twist for an even bigger twist. But no, one of the kids has been dead the whole time.
Having that in knowledge, it makes a good chunk of the film fall apart. It's believeable that two mentally unwell kids could overpower their mom, tie her to a bed,…
First thing, roughly 90% of this film is old men in robes gossiping about each other with each other. If you can vibe with that you'll probably enjoya this movie.
It's not an emotionally taxing movie, but there's enough intrigue to keep you interested. Felt like a nice rainy day movie to watch while under a blanket.
Visually it's beautiful, lots of earthy tones dotted with pops of that deep Cardinal Red.
Eggars has become one of those directors that I'll watch anything that he makes. Great, beautiful, if somewhat slow film.

The moustache was an interesting choice. I'm assuming it was one of Eggars historic accuracy dork decisions. It does remove some of the iconic quality of Orlok's look.
