For me the appeal of this film is not the more than unusual art style, or the strange language invented to really immerse one in this world. It is the deep moral discussion which underlies the entirety of the film, on free will and violent adolescence. For me, this film is so effective because of its decontextualisation of these moral issues, of free will, of violent adolescence. We are presented with a film so alien in its brutality and recklessness…

I really don’t see the appeal. I thought it would be an interesting insight into the impacts of crime and poverty on young people growing up, and instead it’s a weird collection of scenes which barely come together and completely play into sexist stereotypes. Everything feels so synthetic, so overdone and overdramatised to get the point across, and the point itself is confused. The characters are completely bland and boring, and the continuity of relationships is just completely overlooked (what is the mother’s role exactly? Single mothers can’t raise children?). A poorly executed attempt at what could’ve been an opportunity to educate.

I wholeheartedly wish I could rate this film lower. I can comfortably say it is the worst film I have ever watched in my life, and I still have no idea what it’s even about. There is no attempt at a plot in the slightest, every scene feels like it was shot in complete isolation from everything else going on in the film, and the actors seemed as if they had been randomly taken from the streets and told to…

The highest accreditation I can give to any film is when it has offered me a new perspective. This film allowed me to participate in consciousness-raising regarding language and how our minds process and perceive the world around us dependent on such systems. I found it fascinating.

Aesthetically it felt refreshing and for me, the asymmetry of the pods really visually reinforced the idea that typical thinking and processing was being challenged. I couldn’t believe what I had watched when I’d finished. The use of chronology with the flashbacks was also interesting,
