I can’t help but feel as though it’s too weird to outright dismiss. There are just numerous choices throughout that certify that undercut whatever could be interesting or insightful about its premise. Mainly the arch tone that makes it all feel too far from anything resembling real life. I could see this working or even being profound if it were all more understated.

Stan and Strong are alone are enough to recommend this.
I can understand why someone at this moment wouldn’t be interested in a film humanizing Trump at all. In doing so Abbasi is able to show the moral atrophy the pursuit of power and money can bring and how truly ugly that process is.
Sebastian Stan’s Trump is perfectly pitched beyond mere impression. Jeremy Strong as Cohn is a freight train at first and haunting by the end.

I can respect after such critical and commercial success to then turn around and give audiences the movie they didn’t want or think they wanted.
What I can’t respect is taking a series of half measures and acting like you ran the whole mile.
I do know that when it first came out that there would be musical numbers I liked the idea.
As they are in the movie, they feel neither successful as musical numbers, or nearly as unsettling…
