Riding in Cars with Boys 2001
“You’re supposed to be the mother and I’m supposed to the kid”
Weirdly paced and the shift in tone is slightly jarring. I think the focus moving from Beverly to Jason could have been executed better especially considering it never ceased being her story. That being said, this type of mother-child relationship really hit home. I resented both Bev and Jason on behalf of the other. I’m not sure if this is a product of the writing, excellent performances, or just my own biases. Extra .5 for Brittany Murphy who is beyond fantastic, as always.
