very clever and nuanced, particularly because it’s not a very “scary” horror film but it is deeply unsettling. it draws a line between old horror and new horror, implementing both in very unique ways— for instance, the kids in the alien masks is kind of mocking new horror for its jump scare shock value. alternatively, the alien being completely unknown in the sky yet causing so much blatant destruction is more reminiscent of the subtle horror from the 80s and 90s!
