The Pod Generation 2023
I love work that imagines future worlds and so it’s frustrating that such an interesting concept isn’t given better exploration. Both the full consequence of artificial gestation for society, and this couple personally. And maybe some more nuance in crafting these characters? Backstory etc. Despite all this I enjoyed it.

Poor Things 2023
A film that suffered from too much anticipation! The utter gorgeousness and high concept dragged it up a star but I have issues with this film, Mark Ruffalo’s performance amongst them. I fundamentally find sexual liberation of a child mind problematic, and the whole thing plays like a male fantasy, the opposite of feminism, including some bizarre fantasy in which she revolutionises sex work?

Wifelike 2022
Most convincing android acting I’ve ever seen gets it a star, otherwise hilariously bad. Although a film about a world where needy men can buy a perfect (ie subservient and sex driven) robot wife but even their robots stand them and run away, or worse, is also straight up hilarious.
