This was, unsurprisingly, very much in line with the recent Marvel tradition...extremely quippy and riffing on its source material in a modern context. The jokes were very hit-or-miss, and might not have held up as well if not for Chris Pine's charisma.
What did surprise me was the fact that this film was pretty competently well-constructed all-around. Despite the heavy MCU influence, I felt it stood on its own and held true to its vision.
