Wowiiiiiiie. COMPLETELY empty. A world of low-rent glam rock/disco futurism where everything is angular and metallic and made of cardboard. Which -sounds- cool, but I promise this movie manages to make every single frame look ugly. Feels kind of like being stuck in an abandoned conference center. The songs are so bad you have to just see for yourself like I cannot describe how bad they are.
I don’t regret watching it though and will probably watch it again one day.

Neo Tokyo 1987
Phantasmagoric. Made me feel like a kid again getting lost in color and movement and feeling drowsy by the end but in the best possible way. Last segment might be my favorite for the extremely cool decaying future-city in the jungle vibes, but the first segment brings the magic. Cyberpunk perfection.

This is balm for the heart. There's unimaginable beauty here in Aslan's story, the deeper magic from before the dawn of time, the castle of Cair Paravel by the sea, the forest and its creatures. There is so much goodness, politeness, civility, and bravery radiating from the characters. The animal costumes and handmade set pieces make it even better in my book.

All art draws from the same well of simple themes, and maybe 80% of art is about the interplay between reality and the dream-world. Lynch’s genius is not in inventing some unheard-of concept, but in using his own private dream-textures, preoccupations, images and symbols, to convey relatable truths in a way that stirs the audience in ways we’ve never felt before.
The “I’m in love with you” scene is the defining moment of the movie. When I first watched it…
