I love everything of Tsui Hark’s I’ve seen so far, but this one just didn’t do it for me. It felt more like a Takashi Miike film in its promised lunacy that never fully delivers and its weird almost-indulgent dips into violence, both physical and sexual, towards women. There’s not much I haven’t seen done elsewhere and better (including in other Hark films).
Good news though, that kitty at the beginning survives unscathed. 🥰
