Some of the best slo-mo squibs use alongside some of the worse martial arts fighting I've ever seen. I imagine the fight choreographer taught the cast a combination of krav maga and Mortal Kombat and called it a day. Also, despite his character being American military, John Lithgow does an English accent thar makes him sound like Stewie Griffin.
