Rewatched before The Penguin. Still loved the hypnotic atmosphere and pace, how is Gotham created/reinvented through all the shots plus the overall look of the film. There are some flaws, but it’s generally a good film.

I like the premise of criticism of the morbid true crime facination and the parasocial relationships people sometimes cultivate. The usage of computers/phones and the internet is smart and clearly shows the director-writer understands how it works. The film also looks decent and the semi-slow pace works well. Despite all these positives, the ending felt kind of exaggerated and thus out of place in otherwise slow and realistic film.

Rewatching this I was not as tense as for the first time, but I still think it's a very good horror film. People who think that current (horror) auteurs can’t come with something new and suprising should watch this. Barbarian shocks both with the story and the way it introduces new characters. Very strong debut and I'm looking forward to future Zach Cregger’s films.

Jackie Brown is a perfect blend of hangout film and crime plot. Tarantino got himself a dreamlike cast (the most important person naturally being Pam Grier), which is with his well-written dialogues the reason the hangout aspect of the film works so well. The film could very well have doubled the runtime and I'd still be entertained from the chemistry of the cast. The heist plot, especially with its use of hyperlink narrative in the climax, is gripping as well. Also in my opinion Jackie Brown has the best soundtrack from all of Tarantino's filmography.
