Saltburn 2023
Only one question comes to mind when I reflect on this film: why?
In terms of money, sex, class, and coming of age, this movie is the epitome of low-hanging fruit. It says nothing new on any of these fronts and, in fact, reduces them all to caricature. For a film whose fame is predicated on vignettes involving reproductive fluids, its characters lack any semblance of human vitality. And those scenes will only “shock” you if you’ve been living under a rock. Hard pass from me. And I like looking at Jacob Elordi as much as the next person…
