Megalopolis 2024
Sometimes, I can’t help but view films on a certain continuum. Emotive art vs. intellectual art. It’s a flawed metric, reductive, but it comes unbidden. The greatest films, or perhaps the most well-constructed, exhibit both emotion and intellect in a sort of duality. Dual avenues for examining a work of art that the viewer can blend and synthesize after the fact. The First Omen 2024
Is it bad that I like this more than the original Omen?
At first, I wasn’t sold. I was thinking, “man can these directors think up a horror film not about nuns and priests and churches and evil pregnancies?”
The cinematography was surprisingly lush at times, with beautiful tones of brown and yellow. A few shots had me mesmerized—especially juxtaposing them with the more gross imagery elsewhere in the film.

Out of Darkness 2022
Atmospheric; engrossing; primal.
As a huge fan of The Witch, I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. A dismal tone of dread pervaded the film and subsumed me into its dreary landscape. Cinematography, directing, acting, themes, etc. All top notch.
Not a film for everyone, but definitely for me. Also, it could’ve done without the final monologue—the message came across just fine without words.
