The acting and directing is fine and I would’ve given the movie four stars if it were not a remake. But I’m deducting half a star because it is essentially pointless. Ikiru is better in every way. This movie does not bring out any extra elements of the story and it is much less visually accomplished. It’s a shame studios feel the need to make these remakes because the viewing public can’t deal with black-and-white movies and subtitles. The limited art spending resources would much be better spent in telling new stories rather than inferior remakes.
