You have to enter this rather uncomfortable uncanny valley where the animals are just a little anthropomorphized but not as much as we're used to in movies. But if you can accept that and skip over many narrative questions, then this is a moving tale of interspecies camaraderie and the will to survive. And how goofy golden retrievers are. It was also extremely stressful for me as an animal lover. I felt more sheer panic for the animals in danger…

I can't deny that this is a touching movie with some really astonishingly deep performances, but I can't really give my heart (and stars) to it because I just can't stop thinking that Monica needs to take the kids and get the hell away from that narcissist. I was thoroughly charmed by this shaggy low budget zombie film. I was pre-disposed to love it - I mean, a feature set in Nunavut starring an all indigenous cast? I'm all over that like a polar bear on a seal carcass. But add in a lovable cast, a suspenseful plot, snappy dialog, and impressive vistas? You've got a real winner. OK, the effects are decidedly low budget, but that's definitely part of the charm.
