Was wondering when it would pick up a little in intensity, but it never really does, and that's the point of course
The most discomforting thing for me was how I instinctively sympathized with someone despite knowing them to be a monster; the film's pointed efforts to hide the atrocities being committed showed how simple it is to tune them out and operate as normal, even as an observer with full knowledge of the situation.

Spirited Away 2001
While I can see the hype, I think this movie suffered more than other Ghibli films from having kind of a thin and chaotic plot. Part of this is it being exaggerated by the world itself being so creative and intriguing that you naturally want to know more about it, but never really get too much detail.
I would still take Mononoke over this, but again it's obvious why this movie is loved by so many
