  This is one of the funniest and most heartfelt movies I’ve ever seen. I was smiling and crying and laughing (which I usually never do no matter what movie I watch);  it’s hard to not notice how much love was put into this.

  первые 20 минут фильма мне казалось, что я разучилась понимать русский, остальные 70 неясными мазками нарисовался образ какой-то мерзкой, немытой, пролетариатской России, и сразу как-то грустно, и как-то разбито, и грязно, и одиноко, и понимаешь, что никогда не выбраться ни Лапшину, ни кому либо еще из этой спирали изолированности 30-х годов 

  интересные мизансцены, которые и сейчас выглядят довольно свежо, оглушающая работа со звуком и животными воплями героев

  is it weird that I find joaquin phoenix attractive? I don’t know. is it weird that I find this movie well-done and actually not that bad, even good? I don’t know. I also don’t know why people hate on it so much when it’s clear that the purpose of music in this movie is to show the insanity of life, its hurt and unfairness. all I know is that it deserves solid 4 stars and maybe even a rewatch one day with a higher rating. y’all need to start appreciating musicals in unusual and actually creative forms
