  the way vampirism is used as a metaphor for addiction in this film is one i’ve never seen before in this capacity, especially with black pro/antagonists. the sound design goes crazy and the visuals made it seem like everything was just a fever dream. also the first time i’ve seen protestant christianity in a vampire film. i’ve never been able to visualize how the two could connect since its so tied to catholicism, but i’d love to see more of that… i need to rewatch this soon.

  it’s a love story <3

  the scale, writing, direction, everything was just really beautiful and it was soooo fucking funny. i found myself cracking up at times where it would be dead silent in the theater. the subtle comedy mixed with absurdity is just right up my alley. but i really love nasha and mickey, and loved how unabashed nasha is in her passion and anger, which was quite beautiful to see. you don’t see that often with black female characters!!!
