My Name Is Loh Kiwan 2024
movie with a promising start that tries to tackle too many issues at once thereby treating all of them superficially, thus the story falls off after the first two acts. it's a controversial portrayal of a north korea defector for sure, but i won't dive into that as im not familiar with the source material. the movie suffers from a horrible pacing that even the main leads great performances can't save. said performances (plus lee sanghee's supporting role) and some beautiful cinematography are the only highlights of this.

it's hard to present a story about child abuse in an empathetic way that doesn't exploit the victims' stories at the same time, but the film somehow manages to maintain a sense of genuine intent. an emotional watch with an engaging performance of the child actors.
