    The Abyss

    ★★★

Great when it's a deep sea mission movie, meh when it's an alien movie.

  • Far and Away

    Far and Away

    ★★½

Some charming moments, some boring moments.
Some witty lines, some cliché lines.
Some breathtaking landscapes, some Tom Cruise buttcrack.

    Beau Is Afraid

    ★★

    Beau was indeed afraid.
And John was enjoyably anxious for the first chunk of it.
Then some forest play started, and John became bored (but the play is BEAU-tiful).
Then Beau gets out of the woods and comes in contact with someone, and John was entertained again.
And when a certain Mariah Carey song stopped playing, John was laughing.
Then, a lot of things happened that maybe on their own would be entertaining, but after so much meandering, John really wanted things to wrap up.

This is probably some great exposure therapy for certain people.  For others, it's an abstract nightmare that overstays its welcome.

  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame

    The Hunchback of Notre Dame

    ★★★

    First watch post-puberty:
One of best first acts of any Disney animated movie.
I wish Quasimodo's singing voice was a little better.
'God Save the Outcasts' is still boring.
I understand what 'Hellfire' is about now. Good golly.
'A Guy Like You' is out of place, and forgettable.
There's awkwardly moving zombie CGI people whenever there's a big crowd of people, and once they're noticed it's very distracting.
