    My Dead Friend Zoe

    ★★★★

What happens if a female Afghanistan veteran, still troubled by the death of her Army best friend, is compelled to face her history and make amends with her veteran grandfather?

The complex emotional landscape of trauma, bereavement, and familial ties makes "My Dead Friend Zoe" a must-watch for fans of dark comedy. The film centers on Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran who is stuck in a cozy-dysfunctional friendship with her deceased best friend Zoe (Natalie Morales) despite…

Recency bias and hype train aside, I cant decide if this is my favorite movie of the year so far or my least favorite.

Luca Guadagnino structures the storytelling of this film like a tennis match.

The film is visually appealing. Dream sequences provide a sense of unease and supernatural depth.

    The soundtrack…

    ★★½

Renfield is an extraordinary rendition on the traditional Dracula story. As a pseudo-sequel to Bram Stokers Dracula in 1931, it stands alone as an intriguing dark comedy where true Nicholas Cage fans can revel in its zany nature. Nicholas Hoult does a fantastic job as well. This movie is fun filler.

However I base my review on 4 factors; story, visuals, spectacle and performance. It has done poorly on most counts.

Although the story concept is entertaining to say the…
