A more-than-worthy sequel to one of the greatest science fiction stories of all time. I am confident in saying that the accumulation of the cinematography, plot, direction, acting, & — perhaps most importantly of all — score (shoutout to Hans Zimmer for once again nailing it) makes this film amongst the all-time great films we have in general, not only within the genre. Modernized and revitalized in all of the best ways, but still maintains a nostalgic nod to the original in both plot and atmosphere. Villeneuve deserves high praise for doing such justice to one of Ridley Scott’s best; it is a truly epic film.

Shinkai does it again. Like Your Name & Weathering With You, it is a fantastical tale of love and self-discovery with stunning animation effective in transporting you to a new world. Though, with Suzume, underpinning this journey is a highly relatable concept: handling the trauma associated with the loss of a loved one. Suzume’s process is full of highs and lows, which accumulate into some of the best character development you’ll find packed into a ~120 minute runtime. Fabulous film.
