The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie 2024
The first 30 minutes or so of this are a masterpiece, and I wish the rest of the film kept up that momentum. The whole feels like a thematic middle finger to WB/Zazlov: a lack of creativity (making the same thing over and over again with different branding) leading to mind control, which adds to the irony of the release. I'm so glad this movie exists, and it was especially nice to see 2D animation back on the big screen. More like this please!!!

My Little Pony: Equestria Girls 2013
Definitely the worst of the series (that I've seen so far), and a little too beheld to Mean Girls references (which felt a bit dated even 12 years ago). Still a silly goofy fun time, and I'm glad the series evolved in a different direction.

John Mulaney: Baby J 2023
I have pretty mixed feelings on this. While I enjoyed a lot of the jokes and personal nature of this special, I just had a gut feeling regarding the deeper aspects of this set that set the vibes off for me. I can't speak to his personal journey or the degree to which he has made a recovery, but there is something deeply unsettling with the entire demeanor of this special. This is emphasized in what is said/shared, how it is framed, and noticeably, what is missing.

I am usually articulate with film analyses, but this was different. This cut deep. I've never felt more seen and vulnerable than after watching this last Wednesday. I was at a loss for words, scrambling for words trying to discuss it with my friend on our ride home from…
