Two stories told in parallel through the eyes of now imprisoned director Jafar Panahi as he portrays himself embroiled in turbulence of a superstitious village while supervising a problematic film shoot in Tehran — both end in deaths of lovers in attempts to cross the Iranian border, which echoes Panahi's halfway renounced escape and probably inevitable fate of serving in jail in real life. Titled a joke of a villager, the film features interesting cinematography that blends reality with fiction, while the actual reality well explains what follows the director as he decides to wrap up his short visit to the village.
