Lots of ideas, all of them derivative, undercooked, and with the subtlety of a Tommy Wiseau performance. There’s a grotesque lack of Song Kang-Ho in this picture.

X-Men 2000
David Hayter is the real behind-the-scenes superstar for me in this one. That script is somehow coherent and heavy on character interaction, which is true to how Chris Claremont wrote these legendary characters. Mr. Jackman is obviously the breakout star, and this is one of the few times an X-Men movie isn't just a Wolverine movie.

Alien: Covenant 2017
A really tough balancing act: wanting to explore more of what PROMETHEUS began and trying to satiate the numbskulls who just want a pile of dead bodies. Mr. Scott just about manages it. The themes of desire of knowledge transform into lust of creation organically and menacingly. I dug it. Not so much the CGI gore.

The older I get, the more I believe that JERSEY GIRL is Kevin Smith’s best film. Or perhaps, my favorite one. The sentimentality is there and depending on who you ask, there’s just the right amount or too much. I’m of the former opinion.
