Watered down, insufferable, and horribly, horribly disappointing. A slap in the face to everything that made the comic special. Calling this the same story with the same characters is a massive stretch. Even viewing this through the lens of an adaptation doesn't work, it just feels like a poorly-written knockoff. And as the rotten egg icing on the sardine-flavored cake, they gave everyone bug eyes, steamrolled over the medieval aesthetic, made Nimona skinny and nerfed Goldenloin's hair...

At the 50th Anniversary screening in Winnipeg, you could hear people screaming from the rafters "NOOOO!" "DON'T DO IT!" as Winslow was preparing to sign Swan's contract, well-knowing their pleas were in vain, that the ending would be the same as it was the day it was released on Halloween 1974. I was part of that wailing chorus.
We watch helplessly as the tragedy unfolds - yet we keep coming back to it. Over fifty years have came and went…
