    This film is a colour palette with cheekbones. Incredibly lifeless corpse of a film both visually, tonally and narratively. It finally glimpses at something interesting in a moment about "appetite" and desire, but never really develops it much beyond that. By the end of the thing I couldn't really get what it was trying to say. Dafoe's monologe was...perplexing.

    Sex will kill you, kids. Get those urges under control.

    I enjoyed Lighthouse but with each successive film Eggers is showing himself to be a really uninteresting director.

    The weakest of the four Hu film's I've seen. A bit long, a bit meandering, but with how well it is shot, and how beautiful the landscapes, not at all unwelcome for it.

    There are some fantastic visual sequences here, and the use of practical effects and colour hits just the right mood for me. The almost avant-garde sequences of magical drummings were worth watching alone.

    Story wise- simple, but fine. Nothing revelatory or shocking. it did it's job.
