heartbroken after the loss of one of the greatest cinematic minds ever, I finally sat down to watch Mulholland Drive and it did not disappoint. although Lynch discourages the need to fully understand a film, I am by nature a person who wants to investigate and hear others’ theories and ideas. it’s no Chungking Express or In the Mood for Love, else it’d have higher ratings for substance for me. it was a beautifully shot film and I enjoyed the pink/blue/red color play I saw throughout. I enjoyed the soundtrack a lot. much of its hype was admittedly lost in translation for me though.

this is my absolute favorite Ghibli film for content and messaging. it’s beautiful and I recommend it to anyone interested in seeing a powerful depiction of the relationship between human and environment.
man I love a good teacher, and I just want to give Carla a hug. everyone in this movie deserves a hug and I think that would have avoided a lot more conflict tbh.
