This was captivating from start to end for sure. The multitude of techniques used to accentuate the film’s eeriness and unsettling atmosphere is simply admirable. From long takes to deliberate breaking of the 180-degree rule, Kurosawa masterfully times each reveal, almost as if he predicts what the audience wants to see next.
What’s more, his choice of victims effectively underscores the notion that, regardless of the degree of closeness between individuals, everyone harbors unspoken grievances.
