Bit of a wasted premise. First half was brilliant, but the second half falls flat on so many levels. Once the plot shifts from the silly clone hijinks to the indigenous alien story, it becomes really messy and tedious. Has way too much going on, and most of the subplots only feel half-explored at best, and completely unnecessary at worst. Robert Pattinson was good though, and I enjoyed the score. Disappointed with this one overall.

Sean Baker seems to have a very cynical world view. I don’t really enjoy the way he frames his stories. Seeing things from his perspective makes me feel uneasy.

This is well made and funny at times, but I didn’t enjoy watching it. Anora has so little characterisation that I could never get behind her. I felt like I was watching Sean Baker’s idea of who a sex worker is, instead of a real character.

    Unpleasant.

Still though, loved some of the production design here, and the score was great. The villains…

I was expecting another Texas Chainsaw Massacre rip off but what I got was a thematically rich and really well-shot homage to it and to 70s exploitation films in general. The story was surprisingly original, and the subtext leaves a lot to be discussed afterwards. I found myself really pleasantly surprised by this one. I'm usually a fan of slashers as they are, but when they actually go beyond the proven formula and explore more interesting themes then they're instantly…
