No Country for Old Men is one of my favorite movies as it plays out slow for a modern western, however, these slow moments are never dull. The Coen brothers are able to keep the tense atmosphere throughout the whole movie through the performances of Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin. Scenes where Chiguhr flips the coin is a great method of one explaining the character while building up tension between him and the cashier or at the end of the movie. Also, the use of subtle details to show and not tell really enhance the story as a whole.

    ★★

This movie is a tale of two stories. The first half of the movie has an actual narrative that is engaging and tells a good story. However this is completely thrown in the trash by the second half where it descends  into madness and is completely goofy. The saving grace of the last 45 minutes or so is George Clooney because he got that DAWG in him.
