To say this movie raises the bar for children/family entertainment is putting it lightly. This movie is designed to be relatable to everyone (show it to a kid, they'll understand; show it to an adult, they'll relate). Bring tissues: this is your final warning (Pixar is as talented in tugging your heartstrings as they are in making computer-generated images move fluidly).
I was, no pun intended, anxiously waiting for the right words to even describe this "major emotion picture".
It's clear Pixar wanted to show off (animating everything that happens in the movie would have taken up a lot of computer resources, such as the animations for Elastigirl, water animations, hair animations, the fluid fight scenes, etc).
Also I love the voice acting of Sarah Vowell in one scene when Violet gets angry: it totally captures the angry voice of a teenage girl.
Edit: this movie starts out slow, so yeah, I was fighting my ADHD watching this movie.
Edit 2: Decent movie.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Movie is rather slow.
But there are moments of action (like the first rocket launcher scene), cool visuals (the eclipse, the nukes) and good drama moments (like drinking the concentrated spice+sandworm bile/Water of Life). There is a cool scene near the end without music: a knife fight scene without music (cool scenes without music in movies emphasize the scene well).
Also, baby sandworms are "cute" if not terrifying.
Some nitpicks: why doesn't the leads take off the nose pieces when…
