Hoosiers 1986
Here’s a though exercise: close your eyes and imagine pulling against Coach Norman Dale. If you are a human being capable of emotion, you’ve discovered you are unable to even imagine hating Gene Hackman’s lead man.
Angelo Pizzo answered the question burning deep within every man’s soul: What if Andy Griffith knew ball? A beautiful weaving of redemption arcs illuminate the intimate beauty of small town high school sports. Sure, 40% of the runtime consists of basketball montages - but all actors can hoop so it works.

Miss Congeniality 2000
Sandra Bullock is second to none when it comes to playing characters in the most unlikely situations.
Miss Congeniality is fun. Despite the zany plot, the writing is mostly fabulous and only resorts to slapstick when absolutely necessary. Michael Caine is a treasure and delivers a performance I can only describe as “pure”. Bratt and Bullock have absolutely unbelievable jawlines yet only somewhat believable chemistry.
Would recommend this chick flick when in the mood for female empowerment that doesn’t overwhelm.

You've Got Mail 1998
Cautionary tale of what can happen when industrialization robs a community of the very essence that originally defined it.
As for the romance, very cute story. Not uncomfortable at all with how Tom Hanks manipulates Meg Ryan. Would recommend for a night in when you’re feeling nostalgic.
