Horror buff with a ridiculously long To-Watch List. Love all movies, but have a soft spot for spooky ghost stories and epic action.

This movie was far goofier than I expected, but I’m not mad about it. The Substance gets 10/10 just for an original script executed well. It’s over the top, highly stylized and fabulously acted. I went in scared it would be super gory and actually wished it was gorier, though the ending serves. Girl power, visually pleasing with buckets of blood, and overall a good time: my kind of movie. 533 out of 572 Kubrick references.

    Depress Fest 1995.

Getting over that it’s simply not my kind of movie, the editing of the movie feels dated with 30 years hindsight. My main complaint is that despite good acting, I didn’t feel chemistry between the leads. We have no sense of who the characters really are, their personalities, what they like or what they like about each other. It’s simply about two messed up people who happen to meet and give each other attention for a couple…

I had no interest in this when it came out, it looked unfunny and stupid. Thankfully my tastes have refined in 15 years and hot damn, I was SHOCKED at how good it is. This is made by people with talent that truly love movies. It starts as Trailer Park Boys in a parallel universe, and just gets more and more ridiculous at every turn. The gore and practical effects are first class in a movie cranked up to 11. Truly a Canadian Classic. 10 radius bone pry bars out of 10.

Get rid of your Ginsburgian level blues by watching a bunch of dudes get murdered AF in The Night Comes for Us. Beautifully, ridiculously hyper violent without being heavy. Simple story, likeable good guys, storm trooper grade bad guys and sweet, over the top fight scenes: it’s pretty much all I want out of an action movie. Do recommend if you’re into a bloody Friday night. 4 fights in the Butcher shop out of 5.
