Chicago 2002

Maybe the most times I've screamed "two queens maximizing their joint slay" for one movie. Unbelievable cuntitude. Dastardly levels of motherdom. They even gave the whatever boyfriend his time to serve. Making me cheer for the innocence incarnate main character (usually ugh whatever) by making her unabashedly shitty and conniving was something I didn't think they could pull off. But they did.
Style rules all I don't even care that the plot was forgettable (did love the one moment where the movie did a little bit of "Fuck The Death Penalty" wish that had been a bigger part but whatever)

I hated this movie. I hated this movie so much. If you liked this movie stop here because I despised this movie.

The Boy and the Heron 2023

Maybe my favorite movie of 2023...? I don't know where to start for this one. Dense. I liked the break between the two segments of the movie - the first half that employed only lightly stylized realism to set the stage for exploring war, the legacy of Imperial Japan, class, stepfamilies, and grief (and stylistically representing Mahito's sober, realist outlook before his eventual perspective shift). I liked the strong use of perspective, composition, and animation style (? what's the term…
