    A Most Wanted Man

    ★★★

There's a moment where Gunther (Philip Seymour Hoffman) reveals his true intentions in his hunt that rang false for me - in general, I had trouble keeping track of the central character's motivations. That might be a little bit of a feature of the spy thriller, and I did appreciate how A Most Wanted Man makes a feature of some of the mundane work of intelligence.

A charming cast and decent dialogue make for solid execution on a well-worn premise.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

    ★★

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings would have been better off it had narrowed its focus to the family drama between Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Xialing (Meng'er Zhang), and Wenwu (Tony Leung). Instead, Shang-Chi and Xialing's character development takes a back seat to a somewhat tedious adventure story, the nadir of which is a truly terrible third act, when the Wu family drama is cast aside in favor of a completely CGI kaiju battle.

    No Time to Die

    ★★★★

Clocking in at two hours and 43 minutes, No Time to Die is the longest James Bond movie by a solid fifteen minutes. It's a packed runtime, wrapping up multiple storylines from this era of Bond, maintaining and even expanding an already large supporting cast, and all this while keeping up the action and pacing. There's enough propulsive energy that it's almost always fun to watch, though I did occasionally feel the run time. A solid conclusion for Daniel Craig.
