Anora 2024
I really wanted to put this movie as one of my top films of 2024 but I found it unfortunately underwhelming. As far as character studies go, I didn’t feel any particular interest over reflecting on the movie beyond my initial watch unlike other character studies (e.g. A Different Man). Regardless, Mikey Madison was such a treat. She might be enough to convince me to take up pole dancing again.

The Brutalist 2024
we all come to America to build something for ourselves. we become so obsessed with this idea of the American dream.
the nightmare is realizing that we have built something hollow and in order to survive we had to mold ourselves into palatable shells that we no longer recognize.

Memoir of a Snail 2024
hands down one of my favorites this year. I was lucky enough to watch this with the director’s Q&A. Animation is a medium not a genre!!!

We Live in Time 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The time jumps really worked for the narrative. As someone who has consumed many depictions of grief, I appreciated the subtlety in the dialogue and that there wasn’t this melodramatic moment leading up to a character’s death. Instead opting for presenting grief in singular moments in time.
I wasn’t completely sold on the film but I think it didn’t have to in order to prove its point.
