  I really wanted to love this — and mostly, I did. Though bloody and occasionally scary it was, I did ultimately leave feeling a lack of both scares and blood.

  Eggers’ attention to detail and historical accuracy should be widely and loudly applauded; this was such a delicious, visual feast. The production was a treat to be immersed in.

  Lily-Rose Depp delivering one of the most dedicated and passionate performances in horror this year is also worth the price of admission. Another round of applause for Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
