His full album was probably mid anyway.

I’m predictable because if Ayo is in something, I’ll gladly go see it. This is an interesting feature from writer/director Mark Green. On a technical level, the film is well shot, with effective sound design, a decent cast, and flamboyant, colorful costume design.

The film wears its cult/religion thriller influences on its sleeve, with The Menu feeling like a major inspiration—several story beats seem lifted directly from it.

    Malkovich’s performance was most compelling…

    The Ship of Theseus

Watching RP bounce off himself is great and entertaining to watch the small subtleties he has for 17 &18.

Even though his influences were a little too on the nose, I found Mark Ruffalo the most entertaining part. He was obviously having a lot of fun.

It does take a while for the film to get started and going somewhere mainly because the backstory and heavy exposition feels like it took up a third of the film.

Some trimming of the fat could’ve been helpful with the runtime, but still an enjoyable watch that flirts with the themes of “Theseus’s Ship.”

    Drive-Away Dolls

    ★★

While the trailer would leave you to expect a fun comedy with two opposite lesbians leads, Drive Away Dolls alone delivers on half of that.
Putting Margaret Qualley’s androgynous Timothy Chalamette look and annoying and exaggerated Texan accent aside, I felt little to no actual friendship chemistry between Qualley’s and Viswanathan’s characters respectively. Leaving me contemplating what these two have in common to be friends besides both being lesbians.

The pacing is a little all over the place while taking…

    ★★★

I’m really torn on this. While I’m a fan of the films I’ve seen from Sean Baker, ANORA had me checking the clock, wishing there was a little more substance and a trimming of the fat.

While the buildup is fun, showcasing young, dumb, and childish love, the second half really drags for me. There’s an overly long search scene that felt reminiscent of R-rated sitcom hijinks, leaving me wishing they had trimmed the fat so we could get more…
