Unfortunately I did not love this film, it was overall good but did not meet my high expectations. The main issue I have with the film is the unconvincing storytelling and unrefined, rushed plot. Too often I felt that significant narrative/character developments lacked an appropriate build up or justification. The audiovisual construction of this film was bombastic and awe-inspiring and yet left little room for the characters to breathe and exhibit motivational depth. I haven't read the book, so…

    ★★

No chemistry between the leads, dumb dialogue and subpar acting, insufferable characters without redeeming qualities (somewhat intentional, I assume), bland and uninspired cinematography, no musical score, zero emotional impact (except for some funny bits and the frustration and annoyance this film so masterfully elicits).

Great neorealist story/telling. While premised on ordinary life situations and characters in post-World War II Rome, the story is delivered with rich detail and spans several locations in the city. I felt immersed in this world stricken by the challenges of survival and was rooting for father and son in their quest to find the stolen bicycle on which their livelihood so much depended. The last scene was suspenseful in its build-up of the Father’s last desperate…
