it's just so stylish and so incisive... keenly aware of how the anger of a life wasted turns toxic in the hands of men made to believe their worst instincts are their most righteous and, in a way, delightfully unafraid of the layer of homoeroticism that walks hand-in-hand with this brand of misogynistic hyperviolent masculinity. i'm still absolutely taken by norton's performance here... where were his accolades!! hand 'em over now!!!

gorgeously animated, surprisingly funny, and filled to bursting with action scenes that made me go “hell yeah hell yeah hell yeah” nonstop. climactic battle had me so hyped it was kind of ridiculous.
(also finally got to watch a movie with my mom where she wasn’t asking “who is that? which one’s the bad guy?” the entire time because she was already familiar with the original story, so points for that.)
