I won’t go very deep in this review. The most I can say the root of the error in this movie is that we don’t know who any of the main characters are, what their backstory was before the plot starts. We don’t know why they do what they do. Nor why we should root for them aside from them being dads.

- the aunt character is a total asshole. I get the reason why, she’s really a product of the war environment. It’s just that the kids didn’t do anything wrong, they weren’t misbehaving, I know Japan has a collectivist culture, but the film kind of treats her as a bad guy cause the kids don’t want to come back.
