Given the relevant premise and the compellingly unique form, I was as attentive as I could be to the notes this film may try to hit during its short runtime. I didn’t pick up on anything except occasional confusion and pity.

I didn’t come away from The Social Network feeling like tech entrepreneurs are fundamentally evil, two-faced snakes. But I also didn’t come away with the conclusion that they’re just misunderstood math and computer science wizzes that finally got an opportunity to be ‘cool’. This film is ultimately a portrait of the way money, attention, and prestige come together to generate an intoxicating allure, especially for those who have been denied it. Being exposed to this world I can see just how correct, and ahead of our time, the filmmakers were with this.
