I really enjoyed the first Bank of Dave, found it very heartwarming and inspiring which I never thought I'd say for a film about microfinance. Perhaps it should have been left at the one film though ...
Whilst highlighting an important issue of extortionate and exploitative payday loans - the film takes the creative license of 'based on a trueish story' way too far. Crucial downflaw was taking the story over to the USA imo.
Rather dissapointing, my advice is to watch the first one and forget this one exists.
Having enjoyed Andrea Arnold's latest film 'Bird', I have been keen to explore the rest of her filmography. As in Bird, Fish Tank follows the day-to-day life of a marginalised young person on the fringes of society. A characteristic slice of social realism; this film is grounded in reality and certainly not glamorous.
The focus is certainly on the characters and their relationships with each other rather than action and overly dramatic events; I was left with a sense of…
